Kum. Shreya Devnath, a direct disciple of Violin maestro Late Lalgudi G. Jayaraman, presented solo violin concert for Sri Balakrishna Iyer Endowment Concert organised by SICA. She started her concert with her guru’s varnam Kannanai Manivannanai in Husseni ragam. Then she played Thyagaraja kriti Maajanaki Chettapattaga in Kambhoji ragam and Subbaraya Sastry’s krithi Janani Ninuvina in Reethigowla. Shreya played Dikshitar’s Bala Gopala Palaya in Bhairavi as the main item of her concert. The Tani avartanam by B. Sriram on mridangam and B. Janardhan on ghatam was very enjoyable. She preceded this main item with a rare Thyagaraja’s krithi Vachama Gochara in Kaikavasi ragam and concluded the concert with her guru’s tillana in Hindustani Raag Misrmand. The noted critic Sri Gudipudi Srihari wrote in his weekly review : “Shreya displayed typical style of playing her instrument with leisurely grace, producing pure classicism that recalls the style of her guru in making every move on strings clear and melodious”..
